These two were supposedly based on a real couple, who said they wouldn’t board a life boat as long as there were younger people still aboard the ship. They both went below deck, presumably to their room, and that’s the last time they were seen.

They weren’t “supposedly” based on a real couple, they were real. They were Ida and Isidor Straus, co-owners of Macy’s. Ida was being put into a boat but refused to leave her husband. An officer offered space for both Ida and Isidor on one of the boats but Isidor refused, saying that he wouldn’t get into a boat while there were still other women left on the ship. And they were actually last seen sitting on deck chairs on the boat deck.
